Broken Speedo = normalcy

I confess: I drove a full 2 days with a broken speedometer on my Tesla Model S.

I first noticed it commuting back from work. It was stuck on 0. All the other functionality seemed to be fine, including AutoPilot. I thought about doing the 2-dial reset while driving but decided against it at the last moment. With the heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic, it did not dawn upon me to just pull over and take care of it. On reaching home, I forgot about it.

Next morning, again the same ritual repeated. After a day, it seemed normal to be driving with a speedometer at 0. It did not seem to matter, specially when using AutoPilot most of the way. Who knows, this may become the new normal someday soon.

One one hand, it’s ridiculous that only the speedometer part of the UI hung or froze or whatever the hell happened to it. But on the other, does it really matter? When in doubt, just reboot.
