Wristwatch: Back to Analog

Generation 1 of the Apple Watch was the bomb. It was magical and amazing. Every message notification could be read immediately and every call answered right on the wrist. Customizable watch faces - ooh! The honeymoon period lasted for over 2 years. After switching to the Pixel 2 two years ago, I got an LG Android Wear watch. Besides the round shape, it never tickled my fancy, in spite of the always-on display. It never felt right. Would crash every now and then. A long press would trigger Google Assistant accidentally all the time and could not be disabled. Notifications on Android are kinda broken and after a while, I realized there was just no need to respond immediately. It could wait.

One day the strap broke and that was it. Got an analog watch from Costco and I have to say it feels like I have regained freedom from something. It’s nice to have not your wrist buzz several times an hour. Steps I stopped keeping track of a while back. Simple is good. Don’t miss the nightly charging and carrying an extra charger when traveling. It’s nice to be able to see the time instantly with the flick of a wrist.

Not everything needs upgrading to a smart device.
