Daily fitness regimen: 2 hours of VR TT

Eleven VR Table Tennis has become my goto for fitness and fun. An hour or two, one charge cycle, the need to meet daily Move goals. Stay muted usually, don’t need to talk all the time. Using gestures is good enough. Played someone in China today, was fun to chat, both our English accents notwithstanding. The app needs a restart every other day when flicker gets too high. Can tell if the ball bounces too high on serve. Just one crash in a full year of playing. It’s straightforward to get started, just put on the controllers and headset, do a few warmup knocks with the AI and then jump into multiplayer. Takes a few seconds to find a match.

The physics mechanics are quite amazing. My game has been steadily improving. From 25 initially, I can beat AI at 75 consistently now. Forward top spin smash is good, backhand needs work. Serve is okay. Wonder if it translates to real life. The spins are so faithfully executed - exquisite. It’s a pity the AI doesn’t do much spins, making multiplayer just a lot more fun. The other day I found the fixed target option in the AI, good practice for my backhand. The mini-games get some play every couple of weeks.

Been stuck at 1800 to 2000 score in multiplayer for a couple of months now. Avoid playing over 2200 - get thrashed in no time. Don’t like playing people who focus on tricky edge of table serves and get you to run. I don’t have much space to move back. Fun rallies is what the game is about for me. With an opponent of matching skill, it’s truly an ethereal game. The soft tension and every point being hard fought and with long rallies. Adrenaline rush. Worth friending for. Don’t want to stop. 2 games, 3 games. Otherwise, once is enough. I’m not shy about leaving midway if they start getting mean or a pain in the butt. Try to give them an opportunity for corrective behavior and not have it be too sudden. Else, report and block them for life.

Once I played a one-handed opponent, and they were so good! Almost beat me. I wanted to ask but restrained myself. Man, that was so inspiring. The way he served was magical, beyond what I thought possible.

I haven’t noticed a big change in the game moving from Quest 1 to 2. First Person Tennis takes too much area, specially on top, I kept hitting the ceiling fan and lights, and the physics and gameplay are rather primitive in comparison to TT. I’m quite satisfied with TT. Gets me sweating. More mini-games and better AI would be nice. I don’t Facial expressions being of any help.
